Judy: I guess that is something to wait for!

Toby Wollin: Lately The Beard and I have been eating at the table more (instead of in front of the television) and we both rather like the change. I haven't set the the table in any meanigful way (yet) but the day is fast approaching when I will.

With you all the way here - and I'd like to add - if you have linens that you've been handed down, use them. Yes, you have to wash and iron them (though I happen to like the smell of ironing linen), but along with the nice china upgrading your burrito - a nifty table cloth just upgrades the whole experience nicely. There is no faster way I know of to get people from eating in front of the tv than to set the table. No candles necessary. Once they see the table "set", they know that something special is going to happen. It may be just the two of you, facing one another over the microwaved food, but at least you are facing each other and looking into one another's eyes...not facing the tv set...

I agree. It would so peaceful to sit and have tea with you over the nice wooden table you describe.

I am waiting for my teenagers to leave home and go to college, that's what I'm waiting for! I used to have my sterling out to be used, and they used it all right; most of it has now vanished. I'm keeping everything nice put away until I can be sure whoever uses it doesn't toss it into the trash instead of taking the trouble to put it into the sink.

On the whole, I agree with you, things are there to be used, though.

Amen sister! People don't treat themselves as nicely as they should! Half of my clients are so concerned about resale that they forget who lives in the house NOW!! Treat yourself as the most VIP house guest ever...
