For the stylin’ tots in your life
By Christa TerryIt’s no big secret that The Beard and I are trying for a baby, which means that I get to spend all sorts of money on sewing supplies and all sorts of time browsing the Intertubes for totally sweet baby stuff. Personally, I’m all about the convertibles. If a crib can become a toddler bed, it’ll still be there when the next baby comes along and the first one is ready to give a big boy/girl bed a go.
Right now, Target has some rad furniture for teeny beans, but that isn’t what this post is about. I just wanted to mention it in case you’re in the market because the prices are right. If it just so happens you’re looking to spend a bit more, then head on over to Modern Tots, a shop catering to the hippest and most modern babies (and their parents).
Er, you might want to round out this furniture from the Ola collection with a few accessories…maybe some lighting and possibly a toy or two, but I’m really digging on the bare brick thing.

These are just too, too cute. The little eye dots on the eye stalks do it for me — but be warned that there are some kiddies out there who will cower in horror when confronted with a glowing green alien-shaped night light.

Sure, you could use the actual Yellow Pages, but one false move and Junior goes sliding. Believe me, I know — I’ve used the phone book as a step stool too many times. This “faux book” has a little butt depression to keep your little guy in place.

Growing up, there’d always be these people selling furniture out of trucks on the side of the freeway, and they always had these little kid sized wingback chairs that I adored. Did I ever get one? Noooooo. I would have loved one of these awesome mini sofas just as much.
At least I’ll eventually be able to buy my own kid one, right?

Funny you should mention this, because I spent a couple of hours last weekend perusing a Flickr gallery dedicated to modern nurseries. http://www.flickr.com/groups/modernnursery/
I don’t know why I spent so much time on it, as we’re not planning to have kids for a couple of years yet.
Some of the rooms feature the rather expensive but fabulous Sleepi bassinet/crib/toddler bed (it converts to all three, and then can become two chairs when you’re done with babies) made by Stokke. http://www.stokkeusa.com/index.html
All of Stokke’s products look awesome and interesting.

Absolutely! Best of luck to you, it can be stressful…
The lights are very cute.

Thanks for the links, JaneC!
And thanks for the well wishes, Glinda — I’m trying not to be crazy about it, but it’s kind of hard not to!

Good luck! Hubby and I are trying for numero dos at the moment (well, not this exact moment, how unseemly) and having a bona fide toddler, I would advise you on the convertible crib deal, however, to not put too much stock in the toddler bed.
If you find a convertible you love, great! But if you find a crib that you love that doesn’t convert, I’d buy it anyway. My son was all about the regular twin at 18 months, and most of my girlfriends’ kids skipped the toddler bed phase and went straight to the twin as well. It’s sort of a manufactured extra step that a lot of kids don’t really need, IMO.
If you really have a roller, you can always put on side rails or just leave the mattress on the floor for a few months!
