I now live that dream. Alas! In all the refurbishments that happened before Mr. Twistie's family bought it, nobody ever thought to insulate the place...and neither did Mr. Twistie's father. Since Mr. Twistie and I moved in, we haven't ever had the cash flow to do it. I know all you East coasters will point and laugh at my weeniness, but when it's cold (for coastal California), the cold is intensified and I suffer a lot, and when it's hot, every bit of heat migrates straight to my bedroom where I broil all night long as the cat insists on snuggling up to me. Nothing says "I'm totally miserable and anyplace is better" than seeing one's 21 year old son sitting on concrete with a wireless laptop. I lurve my ceiling fans and I do have central AC. @sterlingspider (great name!!) you can also paint the blades to match the ceiling or a color in the room. We usually don't have these temps until August which terrifies me on potential electric bills. I may have to order the above mentioned beauty of a room fan just to afford lights for the rest of the summer. (It's going to be a rough one when it takes $60.00 to fill up a Mini Cooper!) Now rather then dreaming of dainty ceiling fixtures and maybe a pendant or two I'm thinking about replacement shades for the lights and a fresh coat of polish on the blades.
