You make it all sound so easy, Jennie. I happen to have everything I need to whip one of these up right now...but I think I'll wait until The Beard gets home since he's the wiring man in this house.

Using a little rubber cement, tack the cup base to a sturdy board. Get a diamond or great quality carbide drill bit of the right diameter and slowly drill thru the bottom. Add a little water to keep the cup cool while drilling. The board keeps the base stable and keeps too much pressure from blowing the bottom out. You could also use a drimmel tool or a glass circle cutter if your hand is steady and your eye keen. Guess that does leave you out right now Twistie. As soon as your stars get realigned, give it a try.

I don't know. With the grace I've been displaying the last couple days, I think power tools are the last things I should be handling! I can't seem to walk across the room without disaster this week.

These would be so easy to make with flea market/yard sale tea cups! The hardest thing would be carefully drilling the hole in the cups. The rest is just a cord from the hardware store.

I think one would have to see them in action before choosing one, Twistie. A nice vintage milky glass could cast a diffuse light great for corners and other nookish places!

I'm betting these babies don't produce huge amounts of light, but I find myself in a state of wantiness, anyway.
