I especially hated it when I was growing up and I'd go to friends' houses whose parents had fancy matching china. I was JEALOUS. Why didn't we have fancy matching china, I wondered. It was only later when my mom started making the big bucks and we went to all of these lovely little Italian and fusion restaurants in NYC that I started to appreciate this look. Actually, I think the two square patterns could definitely work together, and I feel sure that green earthenware would do nicely mixed in with any of the round patterns. In fact, I'm really feeling it with the chickens. Mix and more-or-less match has always appealed strongly to me.
