These things have been around for years in Japan. It is uncommon to find toilets without this design here. In my opinion Australia has been way to slow to pick up this technology.

Twistie and class-factotum: But if you were a fellow, you could wash and pee at the same time!

Jennie: I'd honestly love this toilet and sink combo because the main bathroom in my house is small. The toilet is wedged in between the sink and the wall, and I've often feared what might happen if I were to gain any weight. It wouldn't do to get stuck.

cari: It's actually the first of its kind in Australia, or so the company claims. I haven't seen hide nor hair of these in the U.S. Good to know that the technology has caught on somewhere, though. I eagerly await the day the combo toilet comes to my country!

I don't think it's the FIRST model... It might be the first to market this concept in the U.S., but my apartment in Japan had one of these. You can buy special air fresheners that sit in the drain of the sink and are activated by the water flowing over them! Also, the toilet was small and the sink was low, so Twistie, you can just lean!

Twistie, exactly! My first thought was that I would have to straddle the toilet, too!

There is a wonderful offset model where the sink basin is 45 degrees to the side so you can face the sink. Australia is leading the green movement in water saving technology due to their own water shortages. I have an entire green presentation that I give at various home shows. What's going to be available at reasonable prices is awesome! Getting US codes changed to allow these water saving devices is the next step. And getting Americans to embrace these technologies! (Gray water collection and use for example.)

It's really quite ingenious, when you think about it.

The problem I keep running up against, though, is the fact that I like to face the sink square on when I'm washing my hands, and the only way to do that with this combination would be to straddle the toilet in a most disconcerting manner.

Yes, my brain is riddled with unsavory and slightly bizarre images on a daily basis. Why do you ask?
