Seriously Sweet Cardboard Furniture
By Christa TerryI’ve mentioned cardboard furniture at least once here at Manolo for the Home, but that was kid stuff and pretty basic, to boot. As it turns out, cardboard furniture isn’t just for FedEx enthusiasts anymore! In fact, there’s a whole group of people in France who love making classy cardboard furniture so much that they’ve even coined a name for themselves: the Cartonnistes. They craft cardboard furniture that isn’t just functional — it’s also beautiful!
Seriously, do these pieces look like cardboard furniture to you?

If this looks like the kind of papercraft you’d like to get into, there are some basic instructions at Instructables and some video instructions here. I don’t have the time to turn my cartons into couches, but if I did I think I’d really enjoy the results because they’d be so brag-worthy.

It seems like you’d spend a lot of time crafting something that looked good, but was less durable than something you could buy at Ikea. I love making things, but I don’t know that I could justify the time investment for cardboard. Maybe I’m missing something?

Yes, alex. Cardboard furniture can be durable. These examples are great.

It’s hard to imagine that the yin-yang bookcase is made of cardboard! I love it, wish I could have it.
