Keep That Thing Away From Me

By Christa Terry

Does this odd kitchen gadget frighten anyone else as much as it frightens me?

Weird Kitchen Gadgets

When I first saw it on a list of modern kitchen gadgets in House Beautiful, I was stymied as to what it could possible be for. I’d love to hear your guesses as to what it might be if you, like me, did not immediately identify it. The answer lies under the cut for the curious.

It is…drumroll, please…a “citrus reamer” with a ball-tip design that will “unleash just about every drop of juice from hard-skinned fruit,” and it costs $10 at ART AND COOK.

I think the description scares me as much as the picture.

  2. JR Says:

It looks like something an alien would use as a torture device if you fought against the anal probe.

But it’s probably something innocuous like a reamer. Or a really interesting meat hammer.

  3. Little Red Says:

That was my guess as well but it still looks like a torture device.

  4. sunflo Says:

the word ‘reamer’ doesn’t help matters either!

  5. Joachim Says:

I’m not technically inclined. I’m not hardware inclined. I’m not good at much, but hope to learn (and enjoy) new helpful techniques. Thanks!

  6. class factotum Says:

Can’t you just use a 50-cent spoon for that? Or one of those little aluminum lime squeezers from Mexico that give you Alzheimer’s disease?
