Stirring the Pot(ties)

By Christa Terry

The lovely Glinda of Teeny Manolo thought y’all might like to see some, er, unique commodes. Designer toilets, really. The LA Times put up a photo spread entitled ‘Glamorizing the toilet: Designers take on the most utilitarian fixture of all,’ which featured toilets as envisioned and created by designers like Stefano Giovannoni, Wiel Arets, and Troy Adams.

The plum tree design of silver branches and vivid flowers represents spring in Toto’s Miyabi collection. The LA Times also mentions that plum tree blooms were often used in Japanese poem manuscripts. What this has to do with going to the bathroom, I don’t know.

strange toilet

Ye gods, this stainless steel toilet would start to look dirty the second you cleaned it. Imagine the fingerprints… not to mention the butt prints. Ew.

Il Bagno Alessi Dot by Dutch architect Wiel Arets has an asymmetric shape and hangs right on your bathroom wall. That opens up lots of design possibilities — as this photo illustrates, you can just mount it in the middle of a room.

This custom Mini Loo toilet from Neo Metro features a baroque pattern and is mounted off the floor for “easy cleaning.” Now is it just me, or does it remind anyone else of a motorcycle?

Chic? Weird? My vote is for weird, and I can’t think of a single reason to pay thousands of dollars for what amounts to a novelty toilet. If you’re that hard up for bathroom novelty, save your cash and get one of these.

Agree with you on almost all of them, including the motorcycle toilet. But have to admit I find that cherry blossom toilet rather beautiful!!

I just don’t want people to pay that much attention to my toilet…

My 20 month old girl take their diapers off all the time — they even get into their dirty diapers and get it around the bed. Everybody keeps telling me to potty train them, the problem my precious isn’t really talking yet. How can I instruct when my baby can’t even say to me when its time to go to the bathroom? any suggestioms orhelp?
