For real, how long are they going to be using the sets for anyway, and so much of it is stuff that you can't even use because of thedanger of SIDS! They're obviously playing on the new parent desire to get the best everything even if it's going to be outgrown or whatever in a month or two. I do know that there are some problems sending them to the USA because of importation taxes, but if you have got plenty of time before your baby is due to be born, why not have a look at the U.K. site, you might get a bargin. Nursery bedding, especially the higher end stuff like Glenna Jean, is insanely priced. And like you said, half of that stuff you can't even use, as pediatricians advise against comforters AND bumper pads. Our crib was part of the recall as well. They're sending us clips to "fix" it, but I don't feel good putting Sam in there anymore, so we ordered a new crib from Ikea (and I checked Consumer Reports first -- it's one of their recommended ones.)
