I was floored when I saw how much nursery sets were selling for in stores, but I found great bargains online. it's not high end stuff, though. For real, how long are they going to be using the sets for anyway, and so much of it is stuff that you can't even use because of thedanger of SIDS! They're obviously playing on the new parent desire to get the best everything even if it's going to be outgrown or whatever in a month or two.

I'd agree that these bedding sets are over $500. I'm not sure I'd put them quite as high as LPA's guess but it's entirely possible. I can't believe how expensive some of this stuff is!

In the UK, baby nursery bedding sets which usually comprise of a top sheet and a fitted bottom sheet, bumper and lightweight comforter (only 4 pieces) usually retails for somewhere about (GBP)70.00 for a good quality set. I do know that there are some problems sending them to the USA because of importation taxes, but if you have got plenty of time before your baby is due to be born, why not have a look at the U.K. site, you might get a bargin.
Congratulations and best wishes for the birth of your baby

Good idea on replacing it, La Petite Acadienne. The department of consumer safety (or whatever the agency is called) released something that basically said that the hardware fix was crap and that the cribs were still unsafe.

I'm guessing in the $700-$800 range. Nursery bedding, especially the higher end stuff like Glenna Jean, is insanely priced. And like you said, half of that stuff you can't even use, as pediatricians advise against comforters AND bumper pads.

Our crib was part of the recall as well. They're sending us clips to "fix" it, but I don't feel good putting Sam in there anymore, so we ordered a new crib from Ikea (and I checked Consumer Reports first -- it's one of their recommended ones.)
