Vintage Frames, Not-So-Vintage Ideas
By Christa TerryNow and then, silly people throw out art, where art is a descriptor I use loosely, because we’re talking about light-up sparkle Jesus posters and really cheesy landscapes. But don’t just turn up your nose when you see some “art” on Craigslist or in grandma’s attic… at least not until you give the frame a gander. Sometimes some really terrible art somehow got houses in a really awesome frame. Or a fakey wood plastic frame that would be awesome looking with a coat of paint! Think upcycling here, not refinishing.
What can you do with a sweet vintage frame (or maybe a not-so-great as-is frame that has potential)? How about:

…fill it with flowers.
…experiment with a new look.
…incubate an idea.
…get back to nature.
…or make it gorgeously ghostly.
Then put whatever you want in there, from pictures of yourself when you were younger and less tired (note: by ‘you’ I mean ‘me’) to silhouettes of other people’s children that you can pass off as your own. No one will ever know, really. I’ve actually had a lot of fun finding and printing my own art – and I’m still using the descriptor loosely – ever since I realized that, hey, I have a great printer, so why am I paying people to fill my 8×10″ frames? Exactly.
