Turning Disuse Into Decor
By Christa TerryIt’s hot. Or at least warm. Either way, having a fire is the last thing on your mind, and will be the last thing on your mind for some months. You could lean a nice painting or print over the gaping maw of your fireplace, but why not use that empty space to make your living room (or bedroom) a little more awesome? Here are just a few ideas, but there are so many more things one could do.
What can an unused fireplace be? How about a home for your wintergarden, storage for books (my favorite idea) or logs for next winter, a frame for art, a niche for candles, a space for floral arrangements… some people even put their TVs in during the warm-weather season.

I’ve seen the candle thing done, and it’s very pretty when they’re lit, not so much the rest of the time. And wouldn’t your books get filthy? Pretty, but the logs look like the most practical suggestion.
