Rice Is Nice

By Christa Terry

Is it wrong that the 2010 collection at Rice reminds me so much of all the Japanese discount stores I adored when I lived in NYC? I’m not saying there’s any kind of legit overlap, but there’s something about the colors (colorscolorscolors!). Rice makes me miss the city, actually, because there’s something so fab about being able to color your world for 99 cents per item.

Rice of Denmark, of course, is a little more pricey, which is to be expected when you consider that the shop takes great care to ensure that its customers can shop with a clear conscience. In fact, the name Rice was chosen because rice is such an important survival product for so many people, all over the globe.

But enough of that – how adorable is all this stuff?

Is this anything anyone needs? Probably not; after all, we can all get by without flamingo spoons and gnomes with sticks up their colorful butts. But hey, if you have a little money to spend, why not drop it on a few (or a lot) of things that will make your world more awesome? It’s what I’d be doing right now if I had a little money to spend!

A flaw in your argument – I do not think I can “get by” another minute without a flamingo spoon with which to eat my morning yogurt. And the flamingo fencing needs to surround my irises this very weekend! Off to manipulate the budget again…

@Carol Hee! I guess it’s true that one person’s luxury is another person’s necessity! Now to convince my husband that I *need* a ducky watering can and a mini patchwork pouf for our daughter’s room!
