Think Your House Is Odd?
I’ve often commented on how strange my house is – mostly because someone in the past did a lot of shoddy DIY – but it’s not strange at all compared to these strange buildings:

Erwin Wurm’s House Attack in Vienna, Austria – located at the Museum Moderner Kunst

The Basket Building in Ohio – which houses the corporate offices of The Longaberger Company

Cubic Houses in Rotterdam, Netherlands – designed by Piet Blom in 1984

Torre Galatea in Figueres, Spain – an annex of the Salvador Dalí Theater/Museum

The Kansas City Public Library in Missouri – the permanent installation conceals the library’s car park
Very cool! My favorite is House Attack, mostly because I like the idea of my little house deciding to go up against a great big building!
Don’t forget MIT’s Stata Center!
How could I have forgotten that? As odd buildings go, it’s probably the one closest to me!
These are amazing! I love the library – so appropriate.
I wonder why the library chose those titles…
I had my wedding reception at the KC Public Library a couple of years ago, and the library building itself was, until pretty recently, a bank, so the art on the parking structure helps identify the new purpose of the building. Practical as well as attractive!
Oh, also, the books were nominated by library readers and then chosen by the library board. I think they’re supposed to represent the wide tastes of KC readers and its called, “The Community Bookshelf”
The public library for me is the best among them, very appropriate. The Cubic Houses are probably the most difficult and challenging to build. But these are awesome buildings anyway.
