Who’s the Man?

By Christa Terry

surge protector

This little fellow is Electroman, and he’s here to help you with that tangle of wires snaking underneath your desk. Each grounded socket is controlled by an on/off switch, with an indicator light placed right where Electroman’s heart should be. I say should be because as cute as this little guy is during the daytime, my irrational fear of anthropomorphic home appliances comes out at night. Will he stand and walk and ZAP us all? For $25, we can all find out… though I don’t think I’d ever realistically spend that much on a 4-outlet surge protector. You?

    Absolutely brilliant! 🙂

I recently ordered 3 of these. One of my daughters just move into a typical apt. in Manhattan with a kitchen the size of a tiny bathroom. Needing outlets, she was thrilled when I sent her one of these. Just the other day I had to have my cable box replaced. The new one needed an outlet where I didn’t have any more that could handle a transformer-type plug. I reached for my second Electroman and, presto, all was well. It takes up so little space and can handle multiple transformer plugs which is necessary these days. Even the cable guy was impressed and asked where I purchased it and you have to assume he has seen them all.

@Bosch Sweet! I lived in a similar typical NYC apartment and I think I had all of two outlets in my room for my TV and game consoles and computers and other gear. I was definitely rocking the power strips, but one or two of these guys would have been a lot more cheerful to have around. Power strips are ugly things.
