White, Light, and Airy
By Christa TerryHow beautiful is this light and airy house? I love all the windows and all the white, even if an all white house wouldn’t stay all white for long with my current kid- and cat-infested lifestyle. There’s just something so cheery about it, like I feel like I wouldn’t even stay sad for long in an interior like this one. Also, how about that bare log crosspiece in the last picture? It’s such a fun, natural way to give anyone roaming this house a break from those all-white walls and ceilings!

But it looks so cooooold for winter. There are some great winter-time interiors in all white in movies: one in the Omar Shariff “Dr. Zhivago” and one in the Liv Tyler “Onegin” but they still look so cold.

A childhood friend of mine had an all white house- the key to keeping it clean seemed to be throwing the kids outside at the first opportunity, or confining them to one room…
White houses have always freaked me out because of that.

@Kai Jones That’s why I only decorate my many summer residences in white. TRUE STORY.
@canuckianabroad Aw, that makes me kind of sad. Once I decided to have kids, I pretty much resigned myself to not having anything truly nice until they were, well, out of the house, judging by the lack of environmental awareness displayed by many of the teenagers I know. All white houses work best for the childfree and empty nesters. Also people with either no animals or animals who are confined to enclosures.

Ah, a bog-standard Swedish boho chic-ish house. Us Swedes are typically very practical minded when decorating our houses, and this looks like no exception. I’ll bet you everything can be thrown in the washing machine, and bleached for when cats/kids/wine has occurred…
