Inspiration: Shelves Wherever They’ll Go
By Christa TerryWhen you have more books – or stuff – than shelves, but no square footage left for a couple of bookcases, it’s time to get creative. Where can shelves go? Over the couch, perhaps… or along the ceiling and over the door. Books and other stuff can even find a home in your rafters, if that’s the only fillable space you have available. There’s no reason that walls and corners can’t do double duty, especially when floor space is at a premium. Here are a couple of ways that other people have solved the space versus storage problem:

I am a fan of the idea of bookshelves anywhere and everywhere. I dream of having a library room in my future home. The library in Beauty and the Beast (Disney) was my favourite room in the whole castle.
The epitome is Shakespeare and Company in Paris, France. Even the undersides of stairs could become bookcases there…

In the right kind of house, I would definitely have a library. My grandparents’ house has whole walls of bookshelves in the den and the fourth-floor loft. I love it. But in my house, I feel like it would make rooms look even smaller.
